Deloitte – Who What Where App

With over 182,000 consultants spread globally, Deloitte is one of the largest consulting firms on the planet. With the sheer size of the company came the challenge of knowledge silos. For example, one consultant working with a consumer goods company in the United States might miss out on some valuable information learned by a colleague in Australia, causing redundant work and slowing the time to serve clients.

To address this problem, Deloitte added Yammer, the enterprise social network. But how do you influence the behavior of thousands of consultants to adopt social software after years of being conditioned to e-mail and other siloed technologies?

Leveraging Badgeville’s Mobile SDK, Deloitte built Who What Where, their internal mobile “check-in” app. As consultants meet with clients on the road, they can “check-in” on the app with Who they met with, What they talked about, and Where it took place. This information is then broadcast into their Yammer Activity Stream.

As consultants “check in,” they earn rewards and status that map to their particular area of expertise. Deloitte highlights these rewards in its social intranet, enabling employees to showcase their status, reputation and expertise to other colleagues, managers and executives.

As employees are recognized on Yammer for the achievements and expertise surfaced through The Behavior Platform, other employees are then encouraged to adopt the social software as well.

Since utilizing The Behavior Platform by Badgeville, Deloitte has created a more engaging experience across its social intranet. Key business results include:

  • Increased knowledge sharing
  • Improved expertise location between their consultants globally
  • Better alignment between the company and its employees, reducing turnover.
